About Niš

Niš is the third largest city in Serbia with a population of around 260,000 people. Often described as a crossroad between the East and the West, the history of the city stretches back several millennia during which Niš intermittently served as a birthplace of emperors, a battlefield of empires and nation states as well as an important cultural and economic centre. As such, Niš today is a vibrant city where Roman and Byzantine ruins give way to Turkish fortifications repurposed to serve as backdrops for some of the many musical and cultural festivals held in the city.
